Chick guard is used to assemble chicks in a round partition during the brooding stage of chicks. It prevents the chick from wandering off from the heat source and prevents draft air from reaching the chicks. Therefore, its use should be continued until the chicks can produce the heat by themselves.

To use a chick guard, follow these steps:

  1. Choose the right size chick guard. It comes in a variety of sizes, so it’s important to choose one that is the right size for your brooder. The guard should be tall enough to keep the chicks from escaping, but not so tall that it restricts their movement.
  2. Set up the chick guard in your brooder. Place the chick guard in a circle around the heat source in your brooder. The guard should be close enough to the heat source so that the chicks can stay warm, but not so close that they are in danger of overheating.
  3. Secure the chick guard in place. It typically comes with stakes or other anchors that you can use to secure them in place. Make sure that the guard is securely anchored so that it cannot be knocked over by the chicks.
  4. Place the chicks in the brooder. Once the it is set up and secured, you can place your chicks in the brooder. Be sure to provide the chicks with plenty of food and water, and check on them regularly.

As the chicks grow and develop, you can gradually enlarge the area of the brooder by moving the chick guard further out. Once the chicks are fully feathered and can regulate their own body temperature, you can remove the chick guard altogether.

Here are some additional tips for using a chick guard:

  • Place the chick guard in a well-ventilated area.
  • Make sure that the guard is clean and free of debris.
  • Check the guard regularly to make sure that it is still secure.
  • Be careful not to overcrowd the brooder. Chicks need plenty of space to move around and grow.

By following these tips, you can help to ensure that your chicks are safe and healthy during the brooding period.
