Agricultural Sticky Traps are quite valuable to growers. They are used for one of two things: Trapping or monitoring. Putting traps out in numbers can be effective in reducing airborne adult populations of certain pests like white flies and fungus gnats by trapping them. If used at the rate of one trap per 250 square feet, or 1 per 1000 square feet in larger or mono-culture greenhouses and checked, pests counted on a regular schedule, changed as needed, and the results charted, sticky traps can be an effective monitoring tool.

Use yellow sticky traps to trap and monitor most pests, including whiteflies, fungus gnats, shore flies, thrips, winged aphids, leafminers, etc.

  • Use blue traps are for thrips only, which is helpful if you need to monitor for thrips while excluding the inadvertent capture of parasitoids like Aphidius spp. and other at-risk biocontrols.

Precaution on Agricultural Sticky Traps:

  • Make sure you use with care.
  • Reduce hang-duration if needed, just be consistent.
  • Be aware they may inadvertently capture parasitic wasps, midges, and beetles.

Sticky Traps attract pest insects using a specific color spectrum. They do not require lures or baits, but they can be enhanced with essential oils such as Melissa, Lemon or Cinnamon Oil. Trapping is the most efficient way to monitor your crop for pest insects and can often indicate the insect’s presence early enough that other control measures can be taken.

Benefits of using agricultural sticky traps include:

  • Early detection of pests: Sticky traps can help growers detect pests early before they cause significant damage to crops. This allows growers to take early action to control pests before they become more difficult and expensive to manage.
  • Reduced need for pesticides: Sticky traps can help to reduce the need for pesticides by trapping pests before they have a chance to reproduce and spread. This can save growers money and reduce the environmental impact of agriculture.
  • Targeted control: Sticky traps can be used to target specific pests, without harming beneficial insects. This is in contrast to broad-spectrum pesticides, which can kill both pests and beneficial insects.
  • Easy to use: Sticky traps are relatively inexpensive and easy to use. They can be placed in strategic locations throughout fields, greenhouses, or orchards.

Here are some additional benefits of using agricultural sticky traps:

  • They are safe for humans and animals. Sticky traps do not contain any harmful chemicals, so they are safe to use around people and animals.
  • They are durable. Sticky traps can withstand a variety of weather conditions, so they can be used outdoors and indoors.
  • They are easy to monitor. Sticky traps are easy to inspect for pests, so growers can quickly assess the severity of a pest infestation.
