Striker herbicide is an oil dispersion (OD) formulation containing the sulfonyl urea herbicide Nicosulfuron, a post-emergence herbicide for maize. It is a systemic selective post-emergence herbicide, used to control annual grass weeds, broad‑leaved weeds and perennials grass weeds such as Sorghum halepense and Agropyron repens in maize. It is a broad-spectrum herbicide.
Mode of action
Nicosulfuron is rapidly absorbed into the weed leaves and is translocated through the xylem and phloem towards the meristematic zone. In this zone, Nicosulfuron inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), a key enzyme for branched‑chain amino acids synthesis, which results in the cessation of cell division and plant growth.
- The product must not be mixed with organophosphate insecticides, or to be applied to maize, where the furrows are treated with granule organophosphate insecticides.
- It can be applied to maize treated with carbamate insecticides against soil insect pests.
