NIHORT Educates 300 Women on Agricultural products.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, in partnership with the National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT) in Ibadan, Oyo State, has trained women and youth on the value chain of mushrooms and tomatoes in three local councils in Delta State.
The goal of the empowerment and training program, which took place in Kwale, Delta State, was to lower post-harvest losses of the horticulture commodities.
Speaking at the training, which was held at Ndokwa West, East Ukwani Local Council, where 35 women and youths received separate empowerment, Dr. Ephraim Nwanguma, Director of Research, on behalf of Dr. Mohammed Lawal Attanda, Executive Director of NIHORT, said that the training would strengthen the Federal Government’s efforts and focus on agriculture, promoting economic diversification in the nation.

He said the exercise would support a healthy population, wealth growth, employment possibilities, and household food security.
He pointed out that the decision to train on value addition for tomatoes and mushrooms is pertinent given the rise in the use of mushrooms. He continued by saying that this was because farmers were more aware of their nutritional and therapeutic worth and that reducing post-harvest loss would improve their standard of living.
Please we need the training here in Akwa Ibom State.
